Discover Flath's Cottages

For more than 50 years, Flath’s Cottages has been a family‑owned retreat where generations of guests have come to relax, reconnect, and experience the quiet beauty of Washington Island. What began as a few simple lakeside cottages has grown into a welcoming getaway for families who value privacy and a peaceful natural setting.

Located just over a mile from the island’s main road, our waterfront property offers the best of both worlds, close to beaches, parks, and local attractions, yet naturally secluded. With open shoreline, mature trees, and plenty of room to breathe, this is a place where guests can settle in and feel a sense of ease from the moment they arrive.

At Flath’s, we believe in gracious hospitality rooted in authenticity. We welcome guests the way we would welcome friends, warmly, thoughtfully, and with a deep appreciation for the traditions that have shaped our family’s connection to this land for more than half a century.

After a day spent exploring the Island or simply relaxing by the water, evenings here often end with some of the most beautiful sunsets and quiet time around the fire pit. It’s a place where privacy, natural beauty, and a straightforward, unhurried pace bring guests back year after year, creating the kind of memories that define a stay at Flath’s Cottages.

Washington Island

Washington Island, at the northern tip of Door County, Wisconsin, offers a distinctive mix of natural beauty, local history, and outdoor adventure. Reached by ferry from the Door Peninsula, the Island is known for its peaceful pace, scenic shoreline, and welcoming small‑town feel.

Things to Do on the Island

Schoolhouse Beach

Schoolhouse Beach is one of the most famous attractions in Door County and sits just three miles from Flath’s Cottages. Unlike most beaches, its shoreline is made entirely of smooth white limestone rocks shaped by glaciers thousands of years ago. The crystal-clear water and unique stones make it one of the most photographed locations on Washington Island.

Rock Island State Park

From Jackson Harbor, visitors can take a short passenger ferry to Rock Island State Park, one of Wisconsin’s most unique outdoor destinations. Rock Island offers hiking trails, historic sites, and the iconic Pottawatomie Lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in Wisconsin.

Outdoor Adventures

Visitors come to Washington Island for its relaxed outdoor lifestyle. Popular summer and fall activities include kayaking along the shoreline, fishing in Green Bay and Lake Michigan, hiking scenic trails, biking quiet island roads, and enjoying the island’s beaches and wildlife.
